This easy 5-ingredient pumpkin dump cake is a simple, forgiving fall dessert that comes together in minutes. With a golden, crunchy top and a soft pumpkin layer, it’s perfect for busy weeknights or holiday gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 can (15 oz) pumpkin puree
  • 1 can (12 oz) evaporated milk
  • 1 box (15.25 oz) yellow cake mix
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tablespoon pumpkin pie spice

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish lightly with butter or cooking spray.
  3. In a medium bowl, whisk together the pumpkin puree, evaporated milk, and pumpkin pie spice until smooth.
  4. Pour the pumpkin mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread evenly.
  5. Sprinkle the dry cake mix evenly over the pumpkin mixture. Do not stir.
  6. Pour the melted butter evenly over the cake mix layer.
  7. Bake for 45 to 50 minutes, until the top is golden brown and the edges are bubbly.
  8. Let cool for at least 15 minutes before serving.

Notes

Do not use pumpkin pie filling; use 100% pure pumpkin puree. Let the cake rest for 15 minutes before serving to allow the layers to set. For a nutty crunch, sprinkle 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts over the cake mix before adding the butter. Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 5 days or frozen for up to 3 months.
