A creamy, spicy buffalo chicken dip transformed into a festive spider web platter, perfect for Halloween parties, game days, or any gathering where you want a showstopping appetizer that’s surprisingly easy to make.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 16 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 3 cups cooked chicken, shredded
  • 1/2 cup hot sauce (e.g., Frank’s RedHot)
  • 1 packet (about 1 ounce) ranch dressing mix
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese, divided
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 2–3 tablespoons sliced black olives
  • Tortilla chips, for serving
  • Celery sticks, for serving
  • Carrot sticks, for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, beat softened cream cheese and hot sauce together with an electric mixer on medium speed until smooth, about 2-3 minutes.
  3. Add ranch dressing mix and shredded chicken; stir until evenly coated.
  4. Fold in 1 1/2 cups cheddar cheese and all of the mozzarella cheese.
  5. Transfer mixture to a 9-inch pie plate or oven-safe dish and spread into an even layer.
  6. Sprinkle remaining 1/2 cup cheddar cheese over the top.
  7. Bake for 20-25 minutes, until hot and bubbly around the edges. Optionally broil 1-2 minutes for extra golden top.
  8. Let dip cool for 2-3 minutes.
  9. Fill a squeeze bottle or piping bag with sour cream. Starting from the center, squeeze a spiral of sour cream outward.
  10. Use a toothpick or knife to drag lines from the center outward and from the edge inward, alternating to create a web pattern.
  11. Arrange sliced black olives on the web as spiders (whole slice for body, small slivers for legs).
  12. Serve immediately with tortilla chips, celery sticks, and carrot sticks.

Notes

Let cream cheese soften at room temperature for at least 30 minutes to avoid lumps. The dip can be prepared a day ahead and refrigerated; bring to room temperature before baking and add 5-10 minutes to baking time. The sour cream web and olive spiders should be added fresh just before serving. For a milder version, reduce hot sauce to 1/4 cup and add extra ranch dressing. For extra heat, add cayenne pepper or ghost pepper sauce.
