A quick and easy blackberry orange sangria with a deep purple color, perfect for Halloween. Made with frozen blackberries, fresh oranges, and a fruity red wine, this crowd-pleasing cocktail comes together in under 15 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 bottle (750 ml) fruity red wine (e.g., red blend or Merlot)
  • 2 cups frozen blackberries
  • 2 large navel oranges (1 for juicing, 1 for slicing)
  • 1/4 cup honey or agave syrup
  • 1 cup sparkling water or club soda
  • Ice cubes
  • Optional garnishes: fresh rosemary sprigs, star anise, or cinnamon sticks

Instructions

  1. Muddle the blackberries and honey: Add frozen blackberries to a large pitcher. Drizzle honey over them. Gently press with a wooden spoon or muddler to break some berries open, releasing juice.
  2. Add the orange juice: Juice one orange into the pitcher (about 1/4 cup). Stir to combine.
  3. Pour in the wine: Slowly pour the entire bottle of red wine into the pitcher. Stir gently.
  4. Add the orange slices: Slice the second orange into thin rounds (about 1/4 inch thick) and add to the pitcher. Push them down into the liquid.
  5. Chill briefly: Refrigerate for at least 5 minutes, up to 30 minutes, to let flavors meld.
  6. Add the sparkle: Just before serving, pour in the sparkling water or club soda. Stir gently. Taste and adjust sweetness if needed.
  7. Serve over ice: Fill glasses with ice cubes. Pour sangria over ice, ensuring each glass gets some blackberries and an orange slice. Garnish as desired.

Notes

Use frozen blackberries for best color and texture. Let sangria rest 5-10 minutes for flavors to meld. Add sparkling water just before serving to keep fizz. Adjust honey based on wine sweetness.
