A quick and easy one-pan dinner featuring tender chicken and crisp broccoli in a glossy honey garlic sauce. Ready in 25 minutes, it’s perfect for busy weeknights and better than takeout.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 pounds boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 3 cups broccoli florets, cut into uniform pieces
  • 2 tablespoons avocado oil (or any neutral oil with high smoke point)
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1/3 cup honey (runny, liquid honey)
  • 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced finely
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons cold water (slurry)
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds, toasted (for garnish, optional)
  • 2 green onions, sliced thinly (for garnish, optional)
  • Red pepper flakes to taste (for garnish, optional)

Instructions

  1. Pat the chicken pieces dry with paper towels. Season generously with salt and pepper. Set aside.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together honey, soy sauce, minced garlic, rice vinegar, and sesame oil (if using). Set aside.
  3. In another small bowl, stir cornstarch and cold water together until completely smooth. Set aside.
  4. Place a large skillet over medium-high heat and add 1 tablespoon of avocado oil. Heat until the oil shimmers, about 1-2 minutes.
  5. Add the chicken pieces in a single layer (work in batches if needed). Cook undisturbed for 3-4 minutes until golden brown, then flip and cook another 2-3 minutes until cooked through (internal temperature of 165°F). Transfer to a plate and set aside.
  6. Reduce heat to medium and add remaining 1 tablespoon of oil. Add broccoli florets and cook for 3-4 minutes, stirring occasionally, until bright green and tender-crisp.
  7. Return the cooked chicken to the pan with the broccoli. Pour the honey garlic sauce over everything and stir to coat. Cook for 1-2 minutes until sauce starts bubbling.
  8. Stir the cornstarch slurry and pour it into the pan. Stir continuously for 30-60 seconds until the sauce thickens and becomes glossy.
  9. Remove from heat. Sprinkle with sesame seeds, sliced green onions, and red pepper flakes if desired. Serve immediately over steamed rice, quinoa, or noodles.

Notes

Pat chicken dry for best browning. Don’t overcrowd the pan. Watch garlic carefully to avoid burning. Taste sauce before adding slurry and adjust sweetness or saltiness. Broccoli continues to cook after removing from heat, so pull it when slightly firmer than desired.
