An easy and quick dessert featuring flaky puff pastry filled with cinnamon-spiced Granny Smith apples and drizzled with luscious salted caramel sauce. Perfect for cozy fall occasions or last-minute treats.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 sheet frozen puff pastry (about 9x9 inches), thawed but still cold
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour (for dusting work surface)
  • 3 medium Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
  • ½ cup salted caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • Coarse sugar, for sprinkling on crust edges (optional)

Instructions

  1. Lightly flour your work surface and unfold the thawed puff pastry sheet. Gently roll it out to smooth any creases, aiming for a rough 11×11 inch square. Keep chilled until ready to fill. (5 minutes)
  2. In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with granulated sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice. Set aside for 5-10 minutes to let flavors meld. (10 minutes)
  3. Transfer the puff pastry onto a prepared baking sheet. Leaving about a 1.5-inch border, layer the spiced apple slices in the center, piling evenly but not too tall. Dot apples with small pieces of butter. (10 minutes)
  4. Carefully fold the edges of the puff pastry up around the apples, pleating as needed to create a rustic border. Brush exposed pastry edges with beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse sugar. (5 minutes)
  5. Bake in a preheated oven at 400°F (200°C) for 30-35 minutes until pastry is golden and puffed, and apples are tender and bubbling. Tent with foil if edges brown too fast. (30-35 minutes)
  6. Once out of the oven and slightly cooled (about 10 minutes), drizzle salted caramel sauce generously over the warm apples. (5 minutes)
  7. Let the galette cool for another 10 minutes on a wire rack before slicing to allow caramel to set. (10 minutes)

Notes

Keep puff pastry cold until baking to ensure flakiness. Use a mandoline or sharp knife for uniform apple slices. Tent with foil if edges brown too quickly. Toss apples with cornstarch if filling is too juicy. Store leftovers covered in fridge up to 3 days and reheat in oven for best texture.
