This easy spider web chocolate bark with pretzels is a quick and impressive Halloween treat that combines smooth dark chocolate, creamy white chocolate, and salty, crunchy pretzels. It’s the perfect no-fuss dessert for parties, potlucks, or a cozy night in.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 oz (340g) dark chocolate chips or chopped dark chocolate
  • 6 oz (170g) white chocolate chips or chopped white chocolate
  • 1 cup (100g) mini pretzels, plus extra for garnish
  • 1 teaspoon coconut oil, divided
  • Optional: flaky sea salt for finishing

Instructions

  1. Prepare your baking sheet. Line a half-sheet pan with parchment paper. Make sure the paper is smooth and flat. If it curls at the edges, use a tiny dab of melted chocolate to stick it down. Set aside.
  2. Melt the dark chocolate. Place 12 oz (340g) of dark chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl. Add ½ teaspoon of coconut oil. Microwave in 30-second intervals at 50% power, stirring thoroughly after each interval. It usually takes about 2 minutes total. Stop when most of the chips are melted—the residual heat will finish the job. Stir until smooth and glossy. Be careful not to overheat, or the chocolate will seize and turn grainy.
  3. Spread the dark chocolate. Pour the melted dark chocolate onto the prepared baking sheet. Use your spatula to spread it into an even layer, about ¼-inch thick. Don’t worry if it’s not perfectly rectangular—rustic edges look great. Aim for a shape that’s roughly 9×12 inches.
  4. Add the pretzels. While the dark chocolate is still wet, scatter 1 cup (100g) of mini pretzels evenly over the surface. Press them down gently so they stick. Some will sink in a little, and that’s fine. If you want extra pretzels for crunch, add a few more on top now.
  5. Melt the white chocolate. In a separate microwave-safe bowl, combine 6 oz (170g) of white chocolate chips with the remaining ½ teaspoon of coconut oil. Microwave in 20-second intervals at 50% power, stirring after each. White chocolate is more delicate than dark, so go slow. Stop when it’s mostly melted and stir until smooth.
  6. Transfer the white chocolate to a piping bag. Spoon the melted white chocolate into a small piping bag or a zip-top bag. If using a zip-top bag, snip off a tiny corner—start small, you can always cut more. The hole should be about ⅛-inch wide.
  7. Create the spider web design. Drizzle the white chocolate in a spiral pattern over the dark chocolate layer. Start from the center and work your way outward, leaving about 1 inch between each ring. Don’t worry if it’s uneven—that’s part of the charm.
  8. Drag the web lines. Take a toothpick or skewer and start from the center. Drag it outward through the white chocolate rings to the edge of the bark. Repeat this every 1-2 inches around the spiral, creating a web-like pattern. Wipe the toothpick clean between each drag to keep the lines sharp. This is the fun part—you’ll see the web emerge as you go.
  9. Add final touches. While the chocolate is still wet, sprinkle a few extra crushed pretzels on top for texture. If you’re using flaky sea salt, add a light dusting now. The salt will stick to the wet chocolate and add that perfect salty-sweet contrast.
  10. Set the bark. Place the baking sheet in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes, or until the chocolate is completely firm. If you’re in a hurry, 20 minutes in the freezer works too—just keep an eye on it so the chocolate doesn’t bloom (get white spots from temperature shock).
  11. Break into pieces. Once set, lift the parchment paper from the baking sheet. Peel the bark away from the paper and break it into irregular pieces. Don’t use a knife—cracking it by hand gives it a more natural, rustic look. Store in an airtight container.

Notes

Work quickly once the white chocolate is melted as it sets within minutes. For cleaner web lines, dip the toothpick in a little vegetable oil before dragging. If the white chocolate thickens, reheat for 10 seconds in the microwave. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks, or freeze for up to 3 months.
