Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 medium apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled, cored, and cut into 8 wedges each
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1 can (8 oz) refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (1 stick)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish lightly with butter or non-stick spray.
  2. Peel, core, and cut 6 apples into 8 wedges each. In a medium bowl, toss the apple wedges with 1/4 cup granulated sugar, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg, and 1 tablespoon flour. Set aside.
  3. In a small bowl, combine 1/3 cup granulated sugar and 1 tablespoon cinnamon for the coating. Set aside.
  4. Unroll the crescent dough on a clean cutting board. Press the perforations together to seal. Cut the dough into 24 strips, each about 1 inch wide and 4-5 inches long.
  5. Take one strip of dough, dip it in the melted butter, then roll it in the cinnamon sugar mixture. Wrap the strip around one apple wedge, overlapping slightly. Place seam-side down in the prepared dish. Repeat with all wedges.
  6. In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine 1/2 cup butter, 1 cup granulated sugar, 1/2 cup brown sugar, and 1 cup water. Stir until butter melts and sugars dissolve. Bring to a gentle simmer, then remove from heat. Stir in 1 teaspoon vanilla extract and a pinch of salt.
  7. Pour the warm syrup evenly over the wrapped apple wedges. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until tops are golden brown and syrup is bubbling. If browning too quickly, tent with foil for the last 10 minutes.
  8. Let cool for 10-15 minutes on a wire rack. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

Notes

For best results, use Granny Smith apples. The dish can be assembled up to 8 hours in advance and refrigerated; add 5-10 minutes to baking time. Leftovers keep in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven at 350°F for 10-15 minutes.
