These adorable mummy pigs in a blanket are wrapped in flaky crescent roll dough and served with a tangy, spicy mustard dipping sauce. Perfect for Halloween parties, game days, or any occasion that needs a fun, crowd-pleasing snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 can (8 oz) refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • 12 cocktail sausages or little smokies
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 24 candy eyes (optional)
  • 1/4 cup Dijon mustard
  • 2 tablespoons whole grain mustard
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Pinch of cayenne pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and 1 tablespoon of water until smooth and frothy. Set aside.
  3. Open the can of crescent roll dough carefully. Unroll the dough and press the perforated seams together to form a rectangle.
  4. Using a sharp knife or pizza cutter, cut the dough lengthwise into 12 thin strips, each about 1/2 inch wide.
  5. Take one strip of dough and wrap it around a cocktail sausage, starting at one end and working your way to the other. Leave a small gap near the top for the eyes. Place the wrapped sausage on the prepared baking sheet, seam side down. Repeat with the remaining sausages and dough strips.
  6. Using a pastry brush, gently brush each mummy with the egg wash.
  7. Bake for 12-15 minutes, until the dough is golden brown and puffed.
  8. While the mummies are baking, make the spicy mustard sauce. In a small saucepan over low heat, combine the Dijon mustard, whole grain mustard, honey, apple cider vinegar, smoked paprika, and cayenne pepper. Whisk until smooth and warm. Do not let it boil. Remove from heat and set aside.
  9. As soon as the mummies come out of the oven, gently press two candy eyes into the exposed sausage at the top of each mummy.
  10. Allow the mummies to cool on the baking sheet for about 5 minutes. Transfer to a serving platter and serve warm with the spicy mustard sauce on the side.

Notes

For a gluten-free version, use gluten-free crescent roll dough. For dairy-free, check that your crescent roll dough doesn’t contain butter. If you don’t have candy eyes, use small dots of mustard or ketchup instead. The spicy mustard sauce can be made a day ahead and gently reheated.
