These adorable mummy-shaped pigs in a blanket are a fun and easy Halloween appetizer. Wrapped in flaky crescent dough with mustard eyes, they’re perfect for parties or a cozy weeknight treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 can (8 oz) refrigerated crescent roll dough (e.g., Pillsbury)
  • 12 mini hot dogs or cocktail sausages (e.g., Hebrew National beef)
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 2 tablespoons yellow mustard (e.g., French’s)
  • 1 teaspoon mayonnaise (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Unroll crescent roll dough onto a clean cutting board. Pinch perforated seams together to create one solid sheet. Cut dough lengthwise into thin strips, about 1/4 inch wide (12-15 strips).
  3. Place one mini hot dog at the end of a dough strip. Wrap dough around the hot dog, slightly overlapping, leaving a 1/2-inch gap at the top for the face. Repeat with remaining hot dogs and strips.
  4. Arrange wrapped mummies about 2 inches apart on prepared baking sheet.
  5. In a small bowl, whisk egg with water until smooth. Lightly brush each mummy with egg wash.
  6. Bake for 12-15 minutes, until dough is golden brown and puffed.
  7. While mummies bake, mix mustard and mayonnaise (if using) in a tiny bowl until smooth.
  8. Let mummies cool for about 5 minutes. Using a toothpick or small piping bag, dot two small mustard eyes onto the exposed hot dog at the top of each mummy.
  9. Serve warm.

Notes

Keep dough cold for easier handling. Don’t overwrap hot dogs to ensure even cooking. For best results, use smooth yellow mustard for the eyes. Mummies can be assembled up to 24 hours ahead (without egg wash and mustard eyes) and refrigerated. To freeze, freeze unbaked mummies on a baking sheet, then transfer to a freezer bag for up to 3 months; bake from frozen, adding 2-3 minutes.
