This Witch’s Brew Green Punch is a quick, five-minute recipe that recreates the magical green punch from a beloved neighborhood bookstore. Made with simple ingredients like lemon-lime soda, lime sherbet, and pineapple juice, it’s a fizzy, citrusy treat that kids and adults love, perfect for Halloween parties or spooky movie nights.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 bottle (2 liters) lemon-lime soda (like Sprite or 7-Up)
  • 1 can (46 ounces) pineapple juice
  • 1 container (1.5 quarts) lime sherbet
  • Green food coloring (a few drops)
  • Optional: Dry ice or frozen grapes (for fog effect)

Instructions

  1. Soften the sherbet: Take the lime sherbet out of the freezer and let it sit at room temperature for about 5 minutes until soft enough to scoop easily but not melted.
  2. Mix the liquids: In a large punch bowl or drink dispenser, combine the entire 2-liter bottle of lemon-lime soda and the 46-ounce can of pineapple juice. Stir gently with a whisk or long spoon to combine, being careful not to lose too much carbonation.
  3. Add the color: Add 3-4 drops of green food coloring and stir until evenly distributed. The punch should look like a vibrant spring green. Add more drops one at a time if desired.
  4. Incorporate the sherbet: Scoop about 3/4 of the softened lime sherbet into the punch bowl. Whisk gently until mostly dissolved, leaving some small white flecks for a foggy look.
  5. Create the fog effect: If using dry ice, carefully add a small chunk (about the size of a golf ball) using tongs. Never touch dry ice with bare hands. If using frozen grapes, drop a handful in to keep the punch cold without diluting it.
  6. Serve immediately: Ladle the punch into cups, ensuring each serving gets a bit of the sherbet foam on top.
  7. Top off as needed: As the punch gets low, add the remaining sherbet and a splash of fresh soda to revive the fizz and fog effect.

Notes

For best results, soften the sherbet before adding. Use room-temperature soda for a better fog effect with dry ice. Stir gently to preserve carbonation. Add sherbet last to maintain frothy top. This punch is best made fresh; carbonation fades after about an hour. For a dairy-free version, use dairy-free lime sorbet. For lower sugar, use diet soda and unsweetened pineapple juice. Avoid using metal bowls as they can react with acidity. Start with 2 drops of food coloring and add more as needed.
