This quick and easy copycat Starbucks brown sugar oat milk shaken espresso is made with simple ingredients and takes about 5 minutes. It’s perfect for hosting or a weekday treat, with a rich, sweet, and creamy flavor that rivals any coffee shop version.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 shots espresso (about 2 ounces)
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar (packed)
  • Ice cubes
  • Pinch of salt (optional)
  • 3/4 cup oat milk (barista blend preferred)
  • Optional: 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Optional: cinnamon or nutmeg for garnish
  • Optional: brown sugar crystals for rim

Instructions

  1. Brew 2 shots of espresso using your preferred method (moka pot, espresso machine, or instant espresso powder dissolved in 2 ounces hot water).
  2. While espresso is brewing, add 2 tablespoons packed brown sugar to a shaker bottle or mason jar.
  3. Pour the hot espresso over the brown sugar in the shaker. Add a pinch of salt if using.
  4. Close the lid tightly and shake vigorously for about 30 seconds until the sugar is dissolved and the mixture is frothy.
  5. Fill a tall glass with ice cubes (large cubes preferred).
  6. Pour the shaken espresso mixture over the ice.
  7. Slowly pour 3/4 cup oat milk over the back of a spoon to create layers, or stir to combine.
  8. Garnish with a dusting of cinnamon or nutmeg if desired. Serve immediately.

Notes

Use barista blend oat milk for best creaminess and froth. Ensure espresso is hot to dissolve brown sugar. Shake vigorously for 30 seconds. For a lower-sugar option, reduce brown sugar to 1 tablespoon or use a sugar substitute. Store leftover shaken espresso (without milk) in the fridge for up to 24 hours; shake again with fresh ice before serving.
