These caramel apple dumplings with Mountain Dew are incredibly easy to make with just six ingredients. The soda creates a buttery-caramel sauce that makes this dessert a showstopper for any gathering.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large Granny Smith apples
  • 1 can (8 oz) refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 can (12 oz) Mountain Dew
  • Vanilla ice cream for serving (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Peel and core the apples. Cut each apple into 8 equal wedges, about 1/2-inch thick.
  3. Unroll the crescent dough and separate it into 8 triangles along the perforated lines.
  4. Wrap each apple wedge in a crescent dough triangle. Place the apple wedge at the wide end of the triangle and roll it toward the point, ensuring the apple is completely enclosed. Place each wrapped apple seam-side down in an ungreased 9×13-inch baking dish.
  5. In a small saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the sugar and cinnamon, and whisk until the sugar is mostly dissolved. Remove from heat.
  6. Pour the butter mixture evenly over the wrapped apples.
  7. Carefully pour the Mountain Dew around the edges of the dish, avoiding pouring directly over the dough.
  8. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the dumplings are golden brown on top and the sauce is bubbly and thickened. The apples should be tender when poked with a fork.
  9. Let the dumplings rest for 5 minutes before serving. Serve warm, optionally with vanilla ice cream.

Notes

Don’t skip the resting time after baking; it allows the sauce to thicken. Use real butter, not margarine. Do not substitute Mountain Dew with diet soda or other sodas for best results. For a spiced version, add 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg and a pinch of cloves. For dairy-free, use vegan butter or coconut oil.
